Around how veteran's and their families attended the event? I don't have a count, but Bob might have that. Maybe around 40 or so??

What were some of the activities the veterans were able to do with the horses?

Vietnam Facts vs. Fiction
We do not live in Vietnam, Vietnam lives in us

Vietnam Facts vs. Fiction

This will take your mind off of the skirmish in Iraq; for a little while anyway.

I found this article very interesting. The most notable fact is that 2.7 million Americans actually served in the Vietnam Theater of war.

In the last census nearly 14 million Americans claimed they served in Vietnam. Four out of five are lying. I wonder why.

For over 30 years I, like many Vietnam veterans, seldom spoke of Vietnam, except with other veterans, when training soldiers, and in public speeches. These past five years I have joined the hundreds of thousands who believe it is high time the truth be told about the Vietnam War and the people who served there. It's time the American people learn that the United States military did not lose the War, and that a surprisingly high number of people who claim to have served there, in fact, DID NOT.

As Americans, support the men and women involved in the War on Terrorism. The media is once again working tirelessly to undermine their efforts and force a psychological loss or stalemate for the United States. We cannot stand by and let the media do to today's warriors what they did to us 35 years ago.

Below are some assembled facts most readers will find interesting.

VA Identifies Problem with a Transcription Services
VA Identifies Problem with a Transcription Services Contract
http://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel

WASHINGTON (Feb. 12, 2009) - During a routine internal inspection, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) discovered a contractor providing medical transcription services who was not following the Department's rules for protecting medical information.

Although there is no evidence that any patient information was disclosed as a result of the violation, VA has suspended the contractor from receiving any sensitive information from the Department until the contractor guarantees compliance with VA's standards for information technology (IT) security.

"VA insists that contractors, as well as our own personnel, adhere to the highest standards for protecting personal information," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki. "When we detect a problem, as happened in this case, we will quickly fix it, and we will ensure such problems are not happening elsewhere."

DoD cCts Red Tape for Wounded Troops
DoD has announced that a process has been designed to expedite service members seriously injured in combat from military to veteran status by waiving the standard Disability Evaluation System (DES). This waiver allows veterans to receive their benefits in three to four months, compared to a recovery and standard DES process that would normally take much longer.
The expedited process applies to service members whose conditions are designated as catastrophic, and whose injuries were incurred in the line of duty as a direct result of armed conflict.

A catastrophic injury or illness is a permanent, severely disabling injury, disorder or disease that compromises one’s ability to carry out the activities of daily living to such a degree that a service member or veteran requires personal or mechanical assistance to leave...

Veterans Advocates Riled by Report on Army Charity
Veterans advocates are venting anger and frustration toward the biggest charity within the U.S. military after revelations that it has been packing more money into reserves than it has spent on aid during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"We have so many soldiers, reservists and National Guard who are in dire need, and for the Army to be holding this much money in reserve is despicable," chairman Bob Handy of Veterans United for Truth, of Santa Barbara, Calif., said Monday.

He was reacting to an Associated Press investigation that examined five years of tax returns by Army Emergency Relief and reported on interviews with dozens of soldiers, veterans and officials from other military charities.

YOU SAID IT, NOW JUST DO IT
THE PROMISES CAME EASY - WE ARE WAITING AND WATCHING

"Keeping faith with those who serve must always be a core American value and a cornerstone of American patriotism. Because America's commitment to its servicemen and women begins at enlistment, and it must never end." - Barack Obama, Speech in Kansas City, MO, August 21, 2007

As a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Barack Obama fought to end benefit disparities, bring homeless veterans in off the street, strengthen mental health care, add billions of dollars in additional Department of Veterans Affairs funding, and reform a system that often places barriers between veterans and the benefits they have earned. President Obama and Vice President Biden will ensure we honor the sacred trust to care for our nation’s veterans.

A Sacred Trust
Barack Obama and Joe Biden are committed to creating a 21st Century Department of Veterans' Affairs that provides the care and benefits our nation's veterans deserve. They will:
• Allow All Veterans Back into the VA: Reverse the 2003 ban on enrolling modest-income veterans, which has denied care to a million veterans.
• Strengthen VA Care: Make the VA a leader of national health care reform so that veterans get the best care possible. Improve care for polytrauma vision impairment, prosthetics, spinal cord injury, aging, and women's health.
